The idea for New Music Composition arose out of the inspirational composition class at London's Birkbeck University. Slavko Zagorac and Neil March were both students on the course. David Sutton-Anderson and Paul Sarcich were both tutors.
Zagorac and March were both driven by common factors - an instinctive enthusiasm for new and innovative ideas and techniques and a desire to build the profile of contemporary art music.
New Music Composition offers both a platform and a meeting place for composers, performers and supporters of contemporary art music. At its heart is a commitment to the evolution of "classical" music as a living, breathing art in the twenty-first century.
To achieve this we aim to make use of the increasing availability of better communications and accessible technology (internet streaming, digital distribution, on-line PR and promotion etc.) to support all the composers who are featured on the site and reach the widest possible audience. In addition, we hope to provide an information service about opportunities for musicians such as composer competitions, festivals and general events.
We are continually looking into the types of media through which we can build our presence on the worldwide web and will be updating the site as more opportunities come along.
